The other day, while watching a livestream church service, I was preparing to receive communion, as I have done most days during this "prophetic pause." I broke off a piece of matzoh and took out a small cordial glass I like to use for this purpose. I set the matzoh on a plate and poured some grape juice into the glass. As is my usual custom, I filled it about halfway. I turned my attention back to the livestream as the pastor began to speak about the significance of the elements. I always love to hear the story. My favorite part is when Jesus told His disciples to remember Him whenever they partook of this meal.

I looked back at my little portion of matzoh and the glass, and Holy Spirit prompted me to pour some more juice into the glass. Unusual, I thought, but I poured a little more. Maybe three-quarters full this time. "More," He said. So I smiled and poured in a little more. It's a very small glass. Then I sensed Holy Spirit saying, "Fill it up to the top. You want the fullness." "Well, of course I do!" I thought, and carefully filled the glass up to the rim. Or so I thought. Once again, I heard, "There's room for more." So I added one final dab that hovered just barely above the top of the rim. I wondered how I would even lift up the cup without it spilling.

Then I heard, "Now, pour in more until it overflows."

The livestream was lost to me. I was having a live encounter with the Lord. The significance of what He was asking me to do flooded my heart. I poured. And as I watched the liquid overflow the tiny glass, I felt my spirit leap inside me.

"I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]."

John 10:10 (AMP)

I received (or should I say 'achieved') communion in a whole new way that day. The Lord who wanted to be remembered gave me something to remember as well. He showed me that I – that we – are meant to live in the overflow. It was never His intention or design for us to settle for half full.

And now, every time I receive communion, I'll celebrate that reminder and embrace the extravagant fullness of His love.

Lord, thank You for showing up in my kitchen to remind me that there's always room for more. More joy. More love. More provision. More revelation. More peace. Forgive me for sometimes putting You in a box and settling for the limits I place on myself, for looking at my circumstances and not at You. Thank You for always being more than enough. And then some!

I was reminded recently that I was designed to shine. So were you. We were created to carry the Light of the World.

There are all kinds of things that give light. There are lamps and lanterns, candles and flashlights of all shapes and sizes. Some fancy and ornate, and some pretty plain and utilitarian. Some have impressive technical features, others are simple and straightforward. It all depends upon what they were designed to do. But the one thing they all have in common is this: they don't have any light of their own. They're just containers and reflectors of light.

But in each one, there's a connection point that brings forth light. Lamps need a bulb, candles need a wick, oil lamps need fuel to burn. It's at the point of connection that the exchange is made, from darkness to light. It's the place where the light resides.

Light interrupts the darkness. Where light is, darkness cannot be. Light brings illumination. It reveals details with clarity and focus. Light brings a sense of security. It eliminates shadows. Light draws attention. People gather around light for fellowship and community. Light produces warmth, and it makes things grow.

It's that connection that causes the container to fulfill the purpose for which it was designed.

So what's our connection point? How do we deliver light? In John 8:12, Jesus said, "I am light to the world; those who embrace me will experience life-giving light and they will never walk in darkness.” His light is the bulb for our lamp, the wick for our candle and the oil for our lantern. In Him we find the source of true light.

As we stay connected to Him, we reflect that same, life-giving light. And He expects us to shine brightly. In Matthew 5:14-16, Jesus tells us that we, too, are light to the world. The Message translation puts it this way:

"You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God..."

Staying connected to our light Source is the key. Plugging in to the Word of God to illuminate and renew our minds. Basking in the light of His Presence to transform us from the inside out. Worshiping freely to reflect His light back to Him. It's the overflow from our constant connection with Him that lights up the darkness around us.

Lord, thank You for reminding me that I was designed to shine. You have made me to be a container, a carrier and a reflector of Your light. Help me to stay connected to You, my source of light, so that I can fulfill the purpose for which I was designed... to light up the world!

The baby was radiant. She was beautiful and perfect. Wide-eyed and smiling. Happy to be free to walk anywhere she wanted to go in that crowded restaurant. At that moment, where she wanted to go was to our table. I returned her happy smile and told her how beautiful she was. Her skin was luminescent. Soft curls framing her face. Big, beautiful eyes. She was wearing a cute outfit, but all I could see was that radiant, smiling face. It was full of life. Full of possibility. Full of expectation. Full of love.

She walked directly to me, and put her arms up, wanting to be picked up. Wanting to be hugged. Wanting to be embraced. Oh, I wanted to. Her mama came along and scooped her up, apologizing for the baby's boldness. As they were walking away, the baby looked over her mother's shoulder, straight at me, still grinning.

It was a Holy Spirit encounter.

Later, He showed me that to Him, I look just like that baby. Perfect, beautiful, radiant. Full of possibility. Full of love.

He wants us to come to His table. To walk right up to it, never questioning whether or not we would be welcome there. Never doubting our acceptance. Knowing that we are loved. Fully expecting Him to return our perfect smile.

Lord, let us approach Your table in the same way that baby came to ours. Full of joy and expectation. Let me come to You the way that baby came to me… arms outstretched, expecting to be lifted up. Expecting to be embraced and accepted. Expecting to be loved.
